Hooray, hooray, the rain went away! What a beautiful day it was today.

We awoke to bright sunshine, had a wonderful breakfast and planned our day which would start with a walk around Mt. Maunganui (aka Manao). When we arrived at the Mount, the weather was so perfect we decided to climb to the top. An hour or so later, we reached the top. What an incredible view. From the top of the Mount, you could see forever. The bay was on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. (I still can’t get used to the Pacific Ocean being on the east coast.) We took lots of pictures today, and I will post some of them after I get them modified to the format required for Word Press.

The trek up and down the Mount was a long, hot and dry one, and by the time we returned to our car, we were both hot and thirsty. More than anything, I wanted a beer but we couldn’t find one anywhere nearby, so we had to settle for a coke. I finally found a store and picked up a six pack of a local brew that turned out to be quite pleasant. (Not like my home brew, but pretty good.)

After chilling for a while with a cool brew, we opted to visit the Mills Reef winery nearby. Once again, our GPS took us on a wild goose chase, telling us to turn at the wrong places and not telling us to turn at the right places. We finally got there with the help of a kind person walking along the street not far from the winery. Unlike wineries in the U.S. there was no charge for the wine sampling. (What a treat!!) The wine was great and we purchased three bottles to take on our adventure.

We finished off the day with a fish n’ chips supper by the ocean. The sun was low on the horizon, the breeze was mild and the temperature was perfect. Afterwards, we took a walk along the beach and took more photos.

Tomorrow we will leave early for Matamata where they filmed the Hobbits’ Shire. Not sure what we’ll find there as the sets have been removed, but we’ll let you know when we find out. Until then,
