The afternoon found us driving through some beautiful wine country. Before wine tasting, we had a light lunch at a cafe that was in a complex with a movie theatre, cinema, and city library that we found along the way in Macon.

We stopped at Domaine Champier, vineyards and winery that have been making wine for 4 generations. It is located in the Brouilly appellation area. The wine cellar (cave) appeared to be closed, but after ringing the doorbell, we heard footsteps and a charming gentleman greeted us in French wondering what on earth we wanted. Since he didn’t speak English and we don’t speak French, it was a little challenging, but fun. With the help of Google Translate and subsequently a friend of the host who came by, we were able to communicate. We asked our host to recommend his favorite, which he said was impossible since individual preferences and pairing with foods make a big difference. It was a difficult choice but we settled on 2 bottles and a genuine request from our host to return.
