After an absolutely wonderful stay at Tenuta Quadrifoglio, we headed to our destination in Siena. We arrived about 4 hours before check-in since we were so close. We stopped for gelato and asked for directions and found that we were practicality next door. We located the (well hidden) gate for the estate, then checked in and later drove around Siena. The information center was closed so we just enjoyed the local scenery. It is truly beautiful here in the Tuscany region.
We booked our stay at Parco Villa Poggiolo thru our vacation plan. It is actually an Agritourismo – a working farm that rents out rooms to supplement income. The total income must be more from farming than Tourism. It is a good way to get to know the people. In our case we have one of several apartments on 8 hectares property that has vineyards and olive trees. The proprietor presses his own olives for the oil and makes his own wine from the grapes. The property has been in the family for more than 200 years. The reception area is in the main house which is more than 200 years old. The woodwork and spaces are amazing. The grounds are lovely and it has its own small chapel where the owner was married.
Our apt is on the ground floor and reminds us of an old farmhouse. Never fear it has all the modern conveniences like running water, complete kitchen, heat (which we need in the evenings) and a washing machine! All the comforts of home with the Tuscany charm. Time to settle in our new home away from home!
