After a restful night in a small motel just outside Little Rock, we headed to Killeen, TX. We managed to find some back roads to Killeen that avoided the interstates and Dallas and actually didn’t take any more time than if we had gone through Dallas. (It might even have saved time given the traffic in Dallas.) It was a pleasant drive over rolling hills and surprisingly green countryside despite the 95+ temperatures along the way. We arrived at our friends Bob and Gina’s home in mid afternoon. We had a great dinner and wonderful time visiting with Bob and Gina.
One of the best things about road trips is the freedom to stop and visit friends you would otherwise never get to see
. That’s something you simply can’t do when you fly across the country. I often think I’ll never fly domestically again.
