Day 42, Aug 28: Seward Park, Seattle

Today was a lazy day, beautiful sunshine, hot and very hazy from the smoke of the forest fires in the northwest. (We were so very fortunate the days we were at Mt. Rainier that the weather had cleared the smoke out of the area and the visibility was excellent.) We had wanted to stroll through Seward Park today and decided that we would do it in the morning before it got too hot, so we drove down to the park about 11 am. We were surprised at the number of people and the activities that were going on there. I guess everyone was trying to take advantage of the last few days of summer.

Seward Park is a beautiful park on the edge of Lake Washington in southeast Seattle. It’s on a long peninsula that juts out into the lake. Most of the park has been left in its natural state with numerous trails crisscrossing it and a paved trail around its perimeter. We strolled around the perimeter of the park (which is about 2 1/2 miles), relaxed for a short time at the north end of the park where you can see the Lake Washington floating bridge that leads from the city to Mercer Island. Afterwards, we finished our stroll and headed back to the house.

The rest of the day was spent just chilling out until supper time when we went to Spud’s Fish & Chips on Alki Point. (If you haven’t tried fish & chips at Spud’s, you haven’t had fish & chips. It’s a must do for anyone visiting Seattle. It’s truly historic as it has been there since the depression and was a favorite place to go when I was a child.) After dinner, we started getting things ready to leave Seattle tomorrow. It will be sad to leave.
