Day 32, Aug 18: Sacramento to Klamath Falls

On Friday morning we said farewell to our good friend, Candy. She had moved from Northern Virginia to California. It was wonderful to catch up with her and see her just about settled into her new home. Alas, although we spent two nights, we only had one full day with Candy and we made the most of Thursday.

Donner Pass

We headed east across the Donner Pass to Reno where we would pick up US 395 north to Alturas, CA where we would head westward again toward Klamath Falls. We had decided to take an extra day to get to our destination in Corvallis, OR in order to stop by Crater Lake and since we couldn’t get reservations at the park, we opted for Klamath Falls. Other than the drive across Donner Pass which we had learned much about yesterday, the drive to Klamath Falls was uneventful. Over the years, I have driven many parts of US 395 which originally went from the Mexican border to the Canadian border, but there are still parts of it that I haven’t traveled and this leg from Reno to Alturas was one of them.

There, we had the best lemon chicken I had ever had. Afterwards, we walked around downtown, which was pretty much asleep, and then tucked in for the night.
