Day 37, Aug 23: Washington Wine Country

Yakima Valley

We awoke to some cloudy skies, but since daughter Amy had some work today we headed to Yakima Valley wine country without her.

Eastern Washington desert country

Once we crossed to the east side of the mountains, the sun shone on us. The changing geography continues to impress us. Another great day on our journey. As we traveled, the terrain slowly changed from a magnificent wall of fir and pine trees to the arid yellow hills spotted with green bushes.

We stopped at the visitor center in Yakima. The volunteer was extremely helpful and gave us good info about area wineries. We focused in on info about wines we like and noted that it was “Wind down Wednesday with wine” at WilRidge Winery (music & food at 5 pm) & the tasting room didn’t open until 5 pm. We arrived at 3 pm.

Winridge Vineyards

Happily for us the owner arrived early for a repair person, and we got to taste some great wines. We left with satisfied taste buds and a 6 pack (bottles) of wine. The views of vineyards & fruit orchards from tasting room were an extra bonus.
