We awoke to faint sunshine and happily not the expected rain. The cabin was one of our best lodgings – exluding those with family and friends. When we checked in yesterday (before seeing the cabin), we were told the cabin had a bedroom, fireplace, heat, and a bathroom. Peggy is not fond of climbing out of a warm sleeping bag and tent during the night to walk to the bathroom especially when chilly or raining. Since we expected both last night, you can imagine Peggy’s chagrin as we arrived at the cabin and saw what looked like an outhouse across the driveway from the cabin. It was actually a woodshed! The setting in the woods is just beautiful.
We spent a lovely evening in comfy chairs in front of the fireplace. The cabin also had a complete kitchen, table & chairs & the promised bathroom with shower! It’s not too far from home and we look to going again.
Since it’s our last day of vacation, we decided to treat ourselves to a wonderful breakfast at the lodge. Then we took a short walk to view Blackwater Falls and Canyon. The views were spectacular! The Blackwater River eventually empties into the Gulf of Mexico after joining the Dry Fork, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
Following our view of the falls and canyon we headed home. As we traveled through West Virginia, we were again reminded of the beauty of West Virginia and the east. We were rewarded with beautiful vistas as we drove through mountains, gently rolling hills and along green fields. The trees were beginning to show their fall colors! It was a perfect ending to a fantastic trip!
As we drove down our driveway, it was easy to see Wayne’s pleasure at being back home!
