Today we sadly said Auf Wiedersehen to Schliersee and Bavaria. We so very much enjoyed our time there. The mountains and lakes were just beautiful. As we said yesterday, we decided to head to Heidleberg rather than Frankfurt. In addition to being a small city with an Old Europe charm, it has the Heidelberg University, which is the oldest university in Europe and Heidelberg Castle.
We had an uneventful, though longer than expected, journey due to road construction everywhere. It was a beautiful sunny day – prefect for driving (and fixing roads). Everywhere we have been in Europe there are clear signs of Europeans maintaining or improving their infrastructure (unlike some places we know).
We arrived at our hotel without any difficulties. We are staying on the outskirts of Heidelberg just about half way between downtown Heidelberg and downtown Mannheim, and will take public transportation into Heidelberg. There is a bus stop close to our hotel and an S Bahn stop just a little way beyond. It’s actually just about as fast to walk the extra distance to the S Bahn as waiting for the bus and then having to transfer. Wayne has mapped out our itinerary for tomorrow’s activities. Stay tuned, it should be lots of fun.
