We drove to Omaha Beach/Normandy Cemetery and began the day with a walk down to Omaha Beach. Today, the beach looks like any beach in the US complete with children playing in the sand and signs to rent beach equipment. The Visitor Center has wonderful displays and videos that focus on the planning and implementation of the invasion and personal stories of those who fought, died and survived. They were inspiring stories of courage and leadership.

As we were leaving, we met a British couple who had just come from the Canadian Cemetery. They described the experience as sobering. We agreed that although visiting the cemetery is not a fun activity it is something important to do while in this area.
