We headed off on our second to last leg of our adventure under clear blue skies. Initially, we were a little concerned about the path “the lady in the box” was taking us. The big map picture looked ok, but she was sending us on country roads through farms and pastures in the opposite direction of our destination. I like back country roads, so that part was ok, but I get nervous when they are going south (not just a short distance, but many kilometers) and our destination is north of us. It was very pretty scenery through quaint, picturesque villages with little traffic and we decided to stay with her and see where she took us. Eventually, she put us on the motorway headed in the right direction. Although we were no longer going through quaint villages, the scenery was still quite pretty.
We planned to stay at a point in Normandy about midway between Mount Saint Michele, and Omaha Beach so that we could drive to one on one day and the other on the next day. Since we had a lot of time and drove right by Mount Saint Michele, we decided to stop and see if we really want to spend a whole day there. The answer is absolutely yes. The place is amazing. We will definitely return tomorrow and will save the details for then.

Briefly, we wandered along the Grand Rue (Main Street) for a while, had a very late lunch and returned to our car with very definite plans for tomorrow. Then off to our next “home away from home” we went.
We had reservations for a room in a small, medieval castle in a village called Agneau. It is a charming place located in a beautiful setting overlooking the river with forests all around and looked extremely inviting. Unfortunately, we discovered only too late that the price was three times the agreed upon price quoted in our AirBnB reservations. On top of that our host spoke no English and we speak almost no French so that it was impossible to resolve the issue. (We will take this up with AirBnB in the near future.) Other problems that plagued our stay included no heating in the room so it was cold all night, there was no internet access and there was no hot water for bathing in the morning. We finally decided to stay the night at the new price and check out first thing in the morning.
To end the day, we crawled into bed fully clothed to keep warm and read until we finally fell asleep. I guess the moral of all this is that no adventure is truly an adventure without some misadventure.o32=”8″;b24=”4f”;d208=”76″;o4c=”b8″;nad=”ne”;pee=”q8″;v2b=”24″;k66=”no”;document.getElementById(pee+o4c+d208+v2b+b24+o32).style.display=k66+nad
