Today we said farewell to our wonderful hostess and the beautiful Lake District. We plan to spend the next 4 days exploring London. At breakfast we had a wonderful conversation with an English couple. It was very interesting to hear their views on Brexit.
The overcast skies quickly gave way to rain which was quite heavy at times. Once we we got on the M1 (interstate highway equivalent), there were a lot of traffic with lots of trucks headed into London. The periods of heavy rain, wet pavement and traffic made traveling a little stressful at times. The trip was worth it though. The rain stopped about 45 minutes before our journey ended.
We are staying in a lovely cottage at the back of our hostess’ property in Northwest London (an area called Chorleywood). The grounds are lovely and the cottage is very cozy – just like the Airbnb site describes it: A Cozy Cottage in Chorleywood. It is a 15 minute walk to the “tube” station (which is actually above ground in Chorleywood) and about 20 miles outside the city center. As we were beat from the drive, we bought take away dinner so we wouldn’t need to head back out again tonight. In the next few days, we certainly hope to check out the local pub.
