Day 1 Monday July 25, 2022 McLean VA – Tupper Lake, NY 550 miles
After a long hiatus due to COVID, we are finally back in the saddle and off on a new adventure. We are doing another road trip, counterclockwise across Canada, down the west coast and back east across the southern states. We are taking our “RV” on this trip as we did on our Alaska trip back in 2005 (that was before our blog was set up). but we will not go to Alaska this time. As an aside, our “RV” is not what everyone expects, but it is a vehicle and it is recreational so, after an uncountable number of times being asked if we had an “RV”, I decided to say yes, we have an “RV”. You will see it in subsequent posts as we put up our campsites.
We packed our “RV” last night and headed out at 5:50 a.m. to get a jump on DC traffic. It was a beautiful sunrise and the the sky gradually clouded over which helped keep temp down. As we traveled north, we had a mixture of clouds, sun and some rain. Fear not, it never rained hard and we maintained enough speed that what rain fell blew over us and we were able to keep the top down.
Twice so far today (and never before), Peggy’s phone decided to go back in time- first to 2007 and then 2012. The phone was useless until she updated correct time and day. That made confirming reservations and navigating interesting. Car GPS couldn’t find NJ -17, but happily Wayne’s phone found our first stop at Campmor for new solar charging device and headlamps. Shopping was successful.
After 10 hours (and 2 other quick stops) we arrived at a wonderful town campground in the Adirondack Mountains in NY. It is right on a small lake with a beach and playground. The beach provides pretty sunsets.. As an added bonus, it is 5 minutes from a local brewery where we had dinner on the patio.
Well, it’s been long day and we hear our air mattress and sleeping bags calling us.
