We continued our journey again under cloudy, overcast skies. The traffic heading into Seaside, reminded Peggy of driving to the Outer Banks, NC on a summer Saturday morning. As the afternoon continued, there was less cloud cover and finally full bright sun shining on the Pacific Ocean. The views continue to be stunning with beautiful coastline to our right and hills and mountains of fir trees to our left. We are feeling truly blessed to be on this amazing adventure as we travel from one little coastal town to the next. The further south we go the towns seem to be farther apart with fun, curving roads to drive. At one point a little inland, it seemed like our road was nestled on either side by big fir trees.
In our travels, we have come across some interesting signs and street names: Huckleberry Rd, Noseeums Rd (and boy were there a lot of those pesky noseeums!), and Lois Lane. The most interesting sign for today was Beaver Creek Market: Firearms and groceries. Along our way today, we stopped for some local cherries and homemade ice-cream with fresh fruit to order blended into the ice cream. Chocolate and raspberry is a great combination. YUM! We also drove through Dunes National Recreation Area. Some of those dunes were mighty big. It just seemed very weird to Peggy to see fir trees growing in and around sand dunes! For you New Yorkers, we drove through Rockaway Beach – on the Pacific Ocean, not the Atlantic.
Beautiful 101Up to now we have not mentioned gas prices. Well, this morning we saw the lowest price since before leaving Virginia, $4.34/gal, but we had a full tank. Late this afternoon we paid the most so far – $5.31. We guess that was to prepare us for CA gas prices.
Even though I was really enjoying the drive, we decided that 7 p.m. was time to call it a day. We got the last room at the edge of town in Bandon. We went back into town and had a wonderful dinner with some sunset views. Now that we are further south, darkness comes sooner so we headed to our lodging for the night!
