Today as we got closer to home, we lost that last hour we gained so many weeks ago as we crossed back into Eastern Daylight Savings Time. More importantly, we traveled through some beautiful country. The rolling hills and mountains of Kentucky and West Virginia are beautiful. We continued to see hints of fall foliage. The sun continued to shine on us but the temperature is more like fall than summer.
There were some interesting places along the way including, Lincoln’s birthplace and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, but we are eager to get home. Besides there’s not much room to carry bottles of bourbon. Besides, I’m not sure I want to be tasting bourbon and then continuing to drive home. Hmm, perhaps there’s a much shorter road trip in our future.
In Beckley, WV we found a comfortable Day’s Inn right off the highway and a place for dinner a few miles down the road. After a relaxing dinner, we returned to our room, read for a bit and went to bed. Although the clock said 10 p.m., our bodies said 11 p.m.
