We awoke to a clear, bright blue sky, and after a delightful breakfast, headed to the park. The geological formations are truly magnificent. The engineering it took to build the roads, bridges, and tunnels is also impressive. Zion Mt. Carmel Tunnel is 1.1 miles long and was completed in 1930. It has several arched openings for fresh air and great views although no stopping is permitted. The road through the park is a series of curves and switchbacks. It’s perfect for the Miata especially with the perfect weather and the top down. At one of the many pull-outs/view points, we chatted with a foursome from Colorado. One wanted to know if we ordered our car specifically for this park.

Even though it is mid April , it was very crowded.  the visitor center it was so crowded there were no parking spaces left. (We can’t imagine what it must be like here in full summer season.) We feel grateful to be experiencing it now! We wanted to drive up Zion Scenic Trail but sadly, that was closed. We continued on the road through the park stopping at more view points/photo opps. As we’ve said before, the scenery was spectacular and we soaked it all in.

We headed back to our motel in search of beer, wine, and an early dinner. The restaurant has friendly servers, good food, and a quaint ambiance. There are license plates from every state and some Canadian Provinces. There are displays with old cameras, movie projectors and model cars from the 60’s. Peggy had to refrain herself from singing along with the music also 1960s era.

After our pleasant early dinner, we returned to our room to work on the blog and do laundry. Tomorrow we will head to AZ and visit with some dear friends.
