Day 42 (14 May 2024) Yosemite National Park, CA – Sonoma, CA

Although we are sorry to leave Yosemite and all its wonderful sights, more adventures are calling. We were up and on the road early (at least for us – 7:30 a.m.) We were not the only early birds sharing the road.

Again we had wonderful sights as we drove along with lots of curves and switchbacks. There was one section where we could look up the mountain and see our road curving far into the distance. Along some parts of the road we were so close to the hillside/mountainside Peggy was reminded of many of the roads we traveled in the UK. Other parts with the sharp curves reminded her of the scene  in the movie Thelma and Louise where they drive off the cliff

After 4 hours of driving, we stopped in Sunnyvale, CA to visit with friends. Following a delicious lunch and wonderful visit, we got back on the road and headed to today’s final destination – Sonoma. We had a magnificent, clear blue sky when we left Sunnyvale and it remained that way most of the way north to San Francisco, but as we approached the city, you could see the cloud hovering over it and sure enough, the city’s famous fog set in. It didn’t get too bad until we arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge and from there past Sausalito and on to Mill Valley, the visibility remained lousy. So, no photos this time. You will just have to Google it.

We arrived in Sonoma a little before 8 p.m. The weekly Farmer’s Market was in full swing with live music. It looked like great fun, but it had been a long day. We just wanted to unwind in our room and head for bed. We hate to admit it, but the old gray mare ain’t what she used to be.
