Day 69 (10 June 2024) Blackwater Falls, WV – Home

Our stop here at Blackwater Falls State Park was wonderful. At breakfast this morning, Peggy commented on the irony of our return visit here. Not only was it again the last stop on a cross country trip, it was also at the end of a trip west to view the solar eclipse – the last one was in August 2017 at Corvallis, OR. (I don’t suppose we’ll be making any more trips to view solar eclipses, but we will return to Blackwater Falls in the near future.

It was with mixed feelings that we set off for home on this final day of our 2024 adventure. We are looking forward to being back home and not having to unpack and repack the car every day or so. However, we’ve had a wonderful trip. We so enjoyed visiting with family and friends that we see far too infrequently.

On the way home, we took US 48 which passes through Davis, WV (very close to Blackwater Falls) and crosses the eastern Continental Divide just west of Bismark, WV. At its eastern end, it connects with I 81 at Strasburg, VA. From there it’s a short trip north to I 66 which takes us all the way home. We arrived home safe and sound (or as sound as we were before we left.) As wonderful as our trip was “There’s no place like home.”
