Days 20 – 25, Aug 6 – 11: San Diego, CA

We arrived in San Diego to wonderfully comfortable warm (not hot) sunshine to spend a week with daughter Deborah and some time with sister Susan. The weather has cooled here and is very pleasant. Since Deb just returned from 2 weeks in the Caribbean, one volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, we had a quiet couple of days just catching up. It’s hard to believe that today is our last day here with Deb and tomorrow we hit the road again.

Beach Time on the Pacific

We’ve had a fun relaxing week while Deb worked. We had great time with her each evening though. On Monday, Peggy and Susan met for brunch and a walk along the beach while the car had it’s 30’000 mile service and Wayne got to work on his “daddydo list” (as opposed to”honeydo list”). Tuesday was mostly a quiet day with running a few errands and getting supplies for the to do list.

Coronado Island and San Diego from Pt. Loma

Wednesday we spent with Susan at Cabrillo National Monument after a wonderful breakfast at Mission Valley Cafe, aka San Diego Home Cooking. (It’s a great family run place.) There was an unexpected wait to get into Cabrillo though – we never found out the reason as it only took about 30 seconds for the ranger to wave us through with our golden eagle pass. (The fee for the Senior pass for the national parks/monuments goes from $10 – $80 the end of the month.) They have some fascinating exhibits of the old and the new lighthouse along with some interesting movies. The old lighthouse was on top of the bluff and frequently could not be seen at sea because of the cloud coverage, so they replaced it with one down at the shoreline. We watched a movie about migrating whales which was fascinating. We had no idea they migrated so far every year!

We are spending our last day updating the blog, Wayne finishing his to daddydo list and Peggy doing laundry and getting her dose of vitamin D at Deb’s pool. Deb has an early day today so we get to spend our last afternoon and evening with her.
