Day 54 (26 May 2024): Kennewick, WA – Kent, WA

After a wonderful visit and a chance to reconnect with our friends, it was time to resume our travels. After a leisurely breakfast, we packed the car and headed off under sunny skies, but with chilly temperatures.

As we headed northwest, we continued to be awed by the scenery. We were treated to a final view of the vineyards in this area of Washington State. The vineyards gave way to green fields with distant mountains of varying colors,  some with snow covered peaks.

We could see White Pass, elevation 4500 feet, while driving near the ski area. It was interesting to note that the snow level in Washington is at a lower elevation than in California due to being further north and having a colder climate.

While driving along US 12 West, traffic slowed to a crawl as we approached and drove through Packwood, WA. We discovered that, on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, Packwood holds the most popular flea market in the northwest. It is over 1 mile long with a carnival like atmosphere. Peggy was tempted to hop out of the car and buy a bag of kettle corn. We were driving slowly enough for her to do it too!

Our meanderings took longer than anticipated, and as we approached Puyallup we were getting hungry. We stopped at a local BBQ restaurant and had a wonderful dinner. While there we made reservations for a motel in Kent for 2 nights. It was a short ride from dinner to our last stop for the day.
