Our journey continued along US 101 as we crossed into Oregon. Again, the scenery continued to be magnificent. We were treated to spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and some tributaries such as Humboldt Lagoon.
As we traveled north on 101, we were remembering a past trip when we traversed this road heading south. We never tire of this road. The views of the Pacific on our left and occasional views of the mountains to the right reminded us of the beauty of this country that we are so lucky to live in.
Our travel was frequently slowed by road work and lane closures, but we are not complaining. We are so impressed with the repairs and continuous improvements from the highway departments in both states that keep this important road open and safe! As we traveled along different sections of US 101, the road number remained the same, but the name would change. It was mostly referred to as the Pacific Coast Byway, but at one point it was called Redwood Highway.
Peggy also noticed a crossroad that was called Wonder Stump Rd. She is still wondering if it got its name because there’s a stump where people sit and wonder about life.
