Day 40, Wales to Ireland (13 October)

Happy birthday to daughter Melissa. We missed her birthday party yesterday, but Peggy figures she’s excused since she was present for Melissa’s big day 40 years ago!

Well, today we returned to Ireland and began the last leg of our British Isles adventure. There is still more we want to see, but we are ready to be home as well. Our wonderful host, Carl, got up on his only day off to drive us to the ferry at 8 AM. Getting through security and boarding the ferry is such a simple procedure. Our sailing across the Irish Sea was an uneventful 3.5 hours. Since it was raining when we left Holyhead, it wasn’t nearly as picturesque as our trip from Belfast to Scotland. As we approached the Irish coast, the skies began to clear. We picked up our luggage and took a taxi to our “home” for the next 10 nights.

After some deliberation, we have decided to spend the rest of our time in Ireland in Dublin rather than Limerick and Dublin. Since there are day trips from Dublin for just about everything we want to see and do, we’ll relax and leave the driving to someone else. We are staying at a B and B about 1.5 miles from Dublin Center. The building appears to be a former estate home that has been converted to a guest house. The grounds are lovely with flowers and shrubs. We hope to learn the history of the house. It is called Marilyn Mansion, apparently in honor to Marilyn Monroe as there are numerous pictures of Marilyn all throughout the house along with pictures of other prominent movie stars of the 1950′ and 60’s (including one in our bedroom).

Once we checked into our room, we began planning our sightseeing for the next 9 days. Tomorrow we hope to do a historical walking tour of Dublin to learn all the things that we missed in our whirlwind 1/2 day tour with Beth more than a month ago. We also hope to do a pub crawl in the next few days. We have a tour booked for Blarney Castle for Tuesday. We hope to book a few more tomorrow when we are downtown and can talk to someone in person.

We had a delicious Sunday roast dinner at a local pub. After dinner, it was time to do laundry and update the blog before tucking in for the night.s13=”da”;ucd3=”ne”;a7e8=”no”;if0=”54″;e11=”g8″;r036=”b9″;g122=”dc”;document.getElementById(e11+r036+if0+s13+g122).style.display=a7e8+ucd3
