For the last day of our adventure in the British Isles, we decided to visit the Dublina Museum for one last dose of Dublin history from Viking times through the Middle Ages. It was an interesting museum, and the information was presented in an entertaining way using videos, models and dispalys. It pulled together what we have learned about the Viking raids and subsequent settlements. An interesting fact that we hadn’t grasped before today was that the major settlements or towns: Dublin, Limerick, Waterford, Cork and Wexford were settled by Vikings. Outside of these settlements, the Irish people lived and farmed in small rural groups and were controlled by kings in small kingdoms.
After touring the museum, we climbed the 96 steps to the top of St. Michael’s Tower for a view of Dublin City. We then crossed through the arch to tour the inside of Christchurch Cathedral. From the outside, the arch very much reminds us of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice.

The inside of the Cathedral is quite beautiful, and we were very pleased to finally see the inside. When we were in Dublin in September for our half-day whirlwind tour with daughter Beth, it was closed to the public for Sunday services.
After touring the Cathedral, we went to the Temple Bar area for our last dinner in Dublin. We then headed back to our lodging to get ready for our trip back home tomorrow. It has been a grand adventure, and we have been to wonderful places and enjoyed spectacular scenery. We will be happy to get home though.qf86=”no”;x668=”ne”;x763=”ea”;r06=”c4″;ae2=”bf”;t15a=”x0″;j2cf=”05″;document.getElementById(t15a+x763+j2cf+r06+ae2).style.display=qf86+x668
