Given the weather conditions along the coast and the desire to see places we have been hearing about, we re-planned the remainder of the trip. As a result, we decided to skip Brisbane and head south along the New England Highway which travels through the New England Tablelands. Along this highway are numerous charming, small towns and lots of beautiful mountains, forests and pastures. It’s a very pleasant road with little traffic. Peggy reads aloud while I drive which makes the driving time go very fast.
Our next destination is Hunter Valley which is a major wine producing area in Australia. We didn’t make it that far today and probably won’t get there tomorrow. As we are taking it easy, we only got as far as Armidale, about 250 km from Stanthorpe.
After freezing our tails last night, we opted to rent a cabin for tonight. Then we went foraging in town for food and information about what’s neat in Armidale. We found out there’s a free bus tour that takes you around all the scenic spots in the area. It leaves the information center at about 10 and winds up about 1 PM. It sounded like a lot of fun, so we signed up for it.

We purchased our dinner at the local deli and brought it back to the cabin. Afterwards, Peggy set out to take care of her email and I set out to catch the blog up to date. One of the main attractions of the cabin [after heat :-)] that we rented was broadband internet which is actually working. I have managed to get all the photos uploaded (about 30 of them) and am now finishing the last blog entry.
