Day 14 (28 April 2025): Hope, AR to Killeen, TX

Happily, today we had an uneventful journey under mostly sunny skies.

Having rushed yesterday to cover much of the distance to Killeen, we had a little more time today. So right after passing into Texas, we left I 40 and took back roads, stopping for a “cuppa” in Athens, TX. At Waco, TX we had to get back onto the interstate (I 35: a road I truly dislike). Fortunately, it’s only a short distance from Waco to Killeen and we arrived a little after 4 pm.

To help pass the time Peggy reads to me. We are presently reading a delightful mystery series about a retired Detective Superintendent and his assistance dog Rex Harrison who was a police dog academy reject because of a bad attitude. It really helps the time fly by when you are driving. Why not just listen to audiobooks, you ask? Frankly, it’s a lot easier to have Peggy rewind and replay when I miss something which often happens in heavy traffic.
