Day 14, Monday, 27 Aug: Copenhagen to Lund, Sweden

Today we said goodbye to our Fredens Hus hostess in Soro and headed to Sweden. We drove drove to Malmo, Sweden via the 17 km bridge/tunnel that connects Denmark to Sweden. It’s a fascinating journey that would have been even better had it not been for the bad weather. The town of Lund had been recommended by one of the guides at the Glyptoteket Museum but unfortunately plans to tour the town got rained out. However, the rain was welcomed by everyone in northern Europe as they had experienced one of the worst droughts ever. While lunching at the Expresso House at the train station in Lund, we were able to book reservations at a lovely B&B in Lomma, about 10 km out of Lund. After a short drive, we checked in to our new lodgings and headed for the local grocery store where we picked up our dinner makings. Sweden. like Massachusetts, doesn’t allow alcoholic beverages to be sold in grocery stores, so we had to go to the local liquor locker to buy beer and wine to go with our light dinner of rolls, ham, cheese (and nutella for me). Believe it or not, I found an absolutely delicious Swedish IPA that really brought out the flavor and aroma of the hops. It was fun people watching and interacting with folks. They are all so friendly and most speak English.

Even though we are here in NW Europe for 2 months, we still need to monitor our time and can’t spend as much time in each place as we might like. We are getting to enjoy what we really like most – traveling to off the beaten path places, seeing first hand how average people live, having opportunities to interact with them and tasting the local foods.

Back at our B&B we met a fascinating Canadian couple from Canmore, Alberta and talked with with them until way past midnight. It was a most interesting conversation touching on many subjects (including Trump). Their daughter and Swedish son-in-law are moving to Jerusalem as they both work for the UN. This is the beauty of the way we travel – getting to meet so many different people.

Since it’s a 6 hour (red eye) ferry ride, we booked a cabin and hope to sleep as there won’t be much to see. More adventures await us and we want to be rested and enjoy them!
