Day 15, 8 August 2022: Chelan, WA

Today, the temperature reached 103. In deference to the heat, we had a slow, quiet day and spent quite a bit of time catching up on our blog. We headed into Chelan about 1 pm. We enjoyed a leisurely picnic lunch in the shade at Lake Chelan Beach park and then purchased salad and rotisserie chicken for dinner later at the trailer. We had a wonderful wine tasting in the shade of a huge willow tree at the Tildio winery. All the wines were excellent,  but we especially liked the Sauvignon Blanc. Peggy is partial to Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough region of New Zealand. The Tildio wine maker studied her craft in New Zealand and the flavors of her Sauvignon Blanc shows. We bought a bottle to have with dinner tonight. Because of limited space in the Miata we can only buy 1 bottle at a time. There are pluses and minuses to traveling in the fun car!

While at the winery, an 18 wheeler pulled in. The trailer said Signature Mobile wine bottler. It is exactly what it sounds like. Inside, the trailer is fully equipped, assembly line style to bottle and label the wine. Tildio uses screw caps which must be put on by hand. The rig travels from winery to winery in the area bottling wine for the smaller vineyards that don’t have their own bottling equipment. We learn something new everyday! It has been a fun stay in Lake Chelan area. Tomorrow we will head in the direction of Mt. Rainier.
