Day 18, Thursday, 11 August 2022: Kalaloch Campgrounds, Olympic National, WA

As predicted we awoke to an absolutely beautiful sunny morning. We made breakfast and then moved 4 sites down. It was quite a picture we are sure. It seemed to  be too much trouble to break everything down and set it back up. We carried our inflated air mattress with sleeping bags on top & placed them on top of picnic table. Next we pulled up the tent stakes and half carried, half dragged the tent down the road to our new site. We finished setting up our new home and went off to the beach. The entire operation didn’t take an hour.

Sunshine on the Pacific

The Pacific Ocean is magnificent. There was some gentle surf as the tide was coming in. The beach has lots of very interesting driftwood and the prevailing winds have bent the trees in interesting ways.

Driftwood

As we said yesterday, there are wooded sites and oceanfront sites. The trees created some very interesting wooded areas. We spent the afternoon walking along the beach and reading while we soaked up the sun. Although there were some folks in the water, it wasn’t warm enough for us. For dinner, we treated ourselves to dinner at the lodge out on deck looking out at the ocean. It was as lovely as it sounds. After dinner we watched the sun slowly sink into the ocean. We topped off our day with a campfire and an almost full moon shining behind the trees. It was a rare sunny, perfect day on the Olympic Peninsula.
