Day 2, 26 July 2022: Little Wolf Campground, NY

First sight that greeted us in the morning

Our first night in the tent after 5 years went well. Since here was no rain in the forecast, we left the tent cover off and enjoyed viewing the stars thru the mesh tent top. It was barely dark when we went to bed and there were no stars yet.

Blue Mountain Lake

First on our agenda was a forty-eight minute drive to Blue Mountain Lake. The road was hilly and curvy. Wayne loved it and we remembered why we are camping out of the Miata instead of the roomy Camry! First we had breakfast with a friend we hadn’t seen in 10+ years. It was great to catch up.

Bull Cottage, Adirondack Experience Museum, Blue Mountain Lake

Afterwards, we spent the afternoon at the Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake. It covers a fair amount of info about life in Adirondacks from the 1700s to current and a section focusing on the Mohawk and Abernecke tribes of the Iroquois nations. Fun trivia: did you know that LaCrosse actually started with the Algonquin Nation and a French trapper gave it its current name? We especially liked the section about the history of logging in the Adirondacks (logging and tourism are the 2 major industries in the area) and the section about rustic furniture made from untreated logs and branches. Some of it is very impressive. Peggy commented that the museum is greatly expanded since she was there about 30 years ago.

We then headed back to our campsite to relax and get ready for dinner. We decided to dine out tonight and chose a local brewery for dinner. The brewery served no food but there was a food truck next to it that had wonderful barbecued pork sandwiches and french fries that went down really well with the brewery’s IPA. Peggy, not being a beer buff had to settle for a glass of red wine with her barbecue.

Afterwards, it was time to get ready for the next leg of our journey as we travel to Canada. It’s a long way to go and we will need to get up early.
