We started the day off with an interesting trip to a ghost town. Rhyolite, NV was a gold mining town with 10,000 people, 2 churches, 50 saloons, banks, schools and a railroad station during its heyday between 1905 & 1911. There is not much left of it now. After the bust, most of the town was carted off to other towns and used for building materials.
Most of what remains are in total ruins with exception of the original train station and a 3 room house constructed by Tom Kelly entirely with empty beer and liquor bottles (and cement) which is pretty much intact . There is a small museum in which you can see photos of the town during its heyday and read about its fascinating history.
Following our ghost town tour we headed to Henderson, NV to spend a couple of days with friends.
