Today was an easy travel day about 3 to 4 hours driving time. We followed our gps along the motorway rather than back roads. We encountered some road construction, but we had mostly open roads for the trip. Like at home, as we neared cities traffic picked up.  For the most part the Polish roads that we have been on are well maintained with good signage. We encountered a few toll roads, but so far they have accepted our credit card without any problem.  There is a fair amount of road construction. At times, it is hard to realize we are not driving on US roads especially when we see signs for “Burger King in 7 minutes” – written in English. Yes, McDonalds is here too.

It seems as we head south, Poland is not quite so flat. We had some beautiful vistas of gently rolling hills and wide open fields. We passed through some very pretty little villages. Sorry, no photo ops. We are reminded that we are in Poland and not the U.S. because the homes are built in a different style from ours. They are smaller with steeply sloped roofs.

We arrived early at our Air BnB, but the cleaning person was just finishing up and we were able to gain access to our new “home away from home” for the next 4 nights. The on-line directions and access were very clear. There was one little hiccup as we were settling in. We found all the kitchen items except the silverware. Since the kitchen came stocked with pots and pans, we were sure we were missing something. Sure enough in the top of one of the big drawers is a smaller drawer (a drawer within a drawer) with silverware, serving spoons etc. Our landlady may be worried about the crazy Americans staying at her rental apartment. It is newly renovated and extremely clean with a comfy bedroom, kitchen/sitting area and bathroom.

We are a 5 minute walk from a mall with a grocery store and a food court that has a wonderful little buffet with delicious food. Oh and yes a good place for gelato! We are a 15 – 20 minute walk to Old Town! There’s free parking for our car as well. Home sweet home.
