We awoke to blue skies and sunshine as we prepared to leave Bath. It was a wonderful stay and our accommodations were top notch.

Fountain

Since we arrived way before check in at our lovely Airbnb, we had time to explore the village. We drove into the center of town, parked and didn’t have far to go before we found places of interest to us. The Corn Exchange

In the 1700s and 1800s, Devizes was important in the corn trade.  The Corn Exchange building was erected in 1857. Today it is used to hold some town council meetings and is rented out for community events. Devizes has always been an important market town and still has market day every Thursday. The Old Butcher’s Market, now called The Shambles, is open 7 days with rented space for various vendors. It’s great to see old buildings still being used.

The Wadworth Brewery has been operating since 1875, and we hope visit that in between visiting Stonehenge and Avebury, a neolithic henge monument.

Once we ventured away from Market Square, we found several pedestrian friendly areas and a variety of shopping and eating opportunities. Food for thought and action since we’ll be here 3 nights. After wandering around the village for a while we found our way to our lodging. It is a comfy one bedroom cottage close to our hosts’ home. The yard is lovely but not quite warm or dry enough to enjoy. We have had periodic episodes of heavy rain since arriving in Devizes.
