Today was a travel day. We left Christchurch at 6 AM and arrived in Sydney at about 6:30 AM, 2 ½ hours later, but with two time zones knocking off the extra time. Sydney was overcast, humid and rainy and as we had planned not to stay in Sydney upon our return, we went directly to the car rental, retrieved our car and headed south. It took some time to get ourselves oriented and underway, and we probably didn’t get out of Sydney until around 11 AM. We headed south in rainy weather until we arrived at Dalmeny, NSW where they had a beautiful campground on the ocean shore. It would have been a nice place to stay a couple of days, but we were warned that the rain was right behind us, so we decided to bail first thing in the morning. It was the first time camping in Australia and we were working with equipment that we were not totally familiar with in the twilight. But we made it OK. We still have some adjustments to make but overall, it turned out to be a great success. The nighttime sky was almost as spectacular as at the Mt. John Observatory.
