Today can be summed up in 1 word: WOW!!
As we headed south from San Jose, the scenery seemed much the same as the past few days but still beautiful. The hills near and far are dune colored and contrasted with splotches of dark green from the trees and bushes. South of Monterey on CA Hwy 1, the surrounding land turned green with spectacular views of the Pacific coastline.
Last week we actually planned ahead and tried, unsuccessfully, to get reservations for Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park campground. Today, we drove past the the full sign at the campground and stopped ½ mile down the road at the information station to ask about other possibilities. We were advised to go back and check to see if there were any cancellations. We lucked out and have a wooded, partially shady spot for 2 nights. This is a beautiful campground with some magnificent redwoods.
We finished up last night’s dinner and enjoyed some Jacuzzi wine while we played cribbage. Then we read for a bit before bed. Since there was no sign of rain, we left the rain fly off the top of the tent which is screened. As we lay in bed, we enjoyed looking at the star filled sky. A wonderful end to a wonderful day.
