It’s a bright sunny day as we say Auf Wiedersehen to our hostess and Vienna. We shared her flat with her the last 2 nights. This was great since it gave us a chance to visit with her and get to know her a little.
As with all of our stops, Vienna has more to see than time to see it all. This was probably our last big city until we get to Paris in mid October. That’s ok because we are ready for a slower pace.
The country side that we drove through closer to Vienna was mostly farm fields with small hamlets nearby and hills and villages in the distance. The closer we got to Salzburg, the prettier the landscape became. It was a patchwork of colors that made Peggy want to get back to quilting. The hillsides were a deep green and we could begin to see the Alps in the distance.
The drive from Vienna was simple and straight forward until we got to about 1/2 kilometer from our destination. The “lady in the box” said you have arrived only there was no hotel to be seen. Between Wayne’s handheld gps and directions from a kind store clerk we found our way to the hotel (about 5 minutes further up the road), parked our car for the next 3 days and checked in without any problems.
After a rest, we went in search of dinner. Our first choice was all booked up. The second was a Greek restaurant with wonderful food and service. We had a very relaxing dinner. When we returned to the hotel we purchased bus tickets for the next 2 days and plotted the itinerary for our combined boat ride, concert and dinner. Now it’s time to chill and head to bed.
