We awoke to a cloudy sky, but no rain during the night. During the day we had brief periods of sunshine and then misty rain – our first rain in weeks. Undeterred by weather, we walked along the beach which is strewn with an amazing collection of drift wood from great logs to odd shaped pieces.
While whale watching, we visited with fellow campers. One of our neighbors was on a 5 day motorcycle trip from British Columbia. Her traveling companion was a small stuffed bear dressed in motorcycle gear. Another couple was from Germany and on a 6 month motor home tour. They bought the small RV on their last trip and stored it at a friend’s in Minnesota. What a great idea! We get a much better opportunity to talk with fellow travelers when we stay at campgrounds versus motels.
Our whale watching was rewarded with views of many spouts and glimpses of the whales. Considering Peggy’s poor sailing stomach, that is as close to whales that she will get. It was especially neat to see them after learning about migratory patterns at Cabrillo National Monument. We also had a great view of a sea otter that was frolicking in the surf. For once we had the binoculars when we needed them. We treated ourselves to lunch at the nearby Kalaloch Lodge and spent the day and evening relaxing at our campsite complete with a campfire.
