Later, we went shopping for dinner at the local Carrefour market which is much like any US supermarket except for the very extensive selection of reasonably priced beers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much beer in one place.
We had a low key afternoon and a lovely dinner grilled tableside on a raclette – a different kind of electric grill. Basically it involves melting cheese below the grill while grilling chopped onions & peppers and chopped bacon and assorted thinly sliced meats: prosciutto, ham, salami. First we put the melted cheese on boiled potatoes and then add the grilled mixture to taste. It was wonderful. Our hostess and Peggy enjoyed a bottle Montepulciano Brunnello wine while Wayne and our host sampled various beers. It was a great wrap up to a marvelous visit.
