Long day of driving today, about 720 km. Not much to report. The land is dry, rocky with little vegetation, occasional hills and lots of dirt. Mostly pretty boring, but occasionally there are some fascinating rock formations and occasionally there is some vegetation – mostly bushes and grass. (Now I know why they refer to the back country as “the bush”.
We arrived at Barkly Road House about 6 PM and opted to set up camp for the night. We were too tired to cook so we ate at the restaurant which was OK. The nights are warmer up here than down in South Australia, but the flies are unbelievable. Now I fully understand what they mean by the Australian salute. Fortunately, the flies appear to like only like daylight when the sun goes down, they disappear.
Tomorrow will be another long day of driving. We still have to figure out which way we’re going to take to get to the coast. We’ll figure it out in the morning.
Cheers,
Wayne & Peggy
