After a very comfortable night at the Travelodge in Cochrane, we continued on our journey  under sunny skies. With little traffic, it is quite serene driving through the little towns along ON 11 (Ontario route 11 which forms part of the Trans Canada Highway) with its spectacular scenery. The area we traveled through today was rural. For the first part of our drive there were quite a few towns with farms and open spaces with lots of trees, rivers and lakes.

We speculated that the main source of income is probably agriculture and tourism.  We did see a unique billboard advertising a “cow motel” with food and water. (Just yesterday, as we passed a tractor trailer for transporting livestock, Peggy wondered what happened to the livestock if the trip involved an overnight stop. Guess now she has her answer.) The further west we went today the distance between towns became greater and there was very little traffic.

Before settling on a final destination for the day, we checked the weather. If the weatherman is correct, our sunny, blue skies will give way to rain for the next few days of travel. Since we are fair weather campers, we’ll just be passing through staying at motels, B&Bs or whatever, but we won’t be setting up camp – at least not until we find a really nice spot with really nice weather. Sitting around in a tent when its raining is no fun. It is too bad about the forecast. There is a really nice Provincial Park with camping on Lake Nipigon, a good sized lake, but the weather forecast said “move along”. So we traveled a little further south and are staying in mom/pop motel in the town of Nipigon, Ontario which is on an inlet of Lake Superior about 100 km north of Thunder Bay.
