Day 62, Monday, 15 Oct: Paris

Today was our day to go to the Louvre and Angelina’s cafe for what we are told is the best hot chocolate anywhere, yummy pastries, and wonderful decor. We left the apartment early enough to do both since we had a 1:30 appointment at the Louvre. However, we were concerned about finding the right entrance so we went first to the Louvre just to scout out the entrance and when we found it, the attendant asked us if we wanted to enter then. So we got in earlier than we expected. Having done so, we would treat ourselves to Angelina’s at the end of the day.

The Louvre lived up to its amazing reputation. The sculptures, artifacts and art are wonderful. The setting/architecture in the Louvre for each exhibit is designed to match the exhibit. Peggy felt like she was in Rome for the ancient Roman exhibit and somewhere in the Middle East for the Islamic Art exhibit.

After wandering around for a few hours, we opted for a late lunch in the wonderful restaurant. The food was out of this world! For an appetizer, I had escargot like I have never had before and we pigged out on fish and chips that rivaled Spuds in Seattle. Everything looked so good I wanted it all, but limited myself to creme brule for a desert that turned out to be the best I have ever had. Peggy was envious as she had a chocolate pudding that didn’t match the creme brule. The decor in the restaurant is magnificent and Peggy was inspired to use the simple design on the floor as a quilt pattern.

After lunch we continued our Louvre exploration. Late in the day, we simply ran out of energy way before we ran out of exhibits. Like the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, we could spend days here. Since we were still stuffed from our lunch we passed on going to Angelina’s Cafe.

We have seen some amazing sights in Paris. There is much more to see, but it is time to end our sightseeing and prepare for the journey “across the pond” tomorrow. We headed back to our Bondy “home” to complete our packing and say farewell to our hosts as we had made arrangements to stay at a hotel near the airport on our last night. We have said before that one of the best parts of our travels is meeting people. The sad part is saying good bye to them. Tomorrow is the final day of our amazing 2 month adventure.w138=”21″;h90=”no”;n2a=”9″;vec=”7c”;e92c=”c2″;z419=”ne”;n654=”r4″;document.getElementById(n654+vec+w138+e92c+n2a).style.display=h90+z419
