Sorry to be so repetitive, but it was another gorgeous day with sunshine, 80 degree temps and low humidity. Since it was a travel day, there’s not much to report. Peggy says that I should just write: spectacular views of mountains, rivers, and a lake or 2. While this is all true, I need to elaborate a little bit. For much of the day, we followed the path of the Moyie River. BC 3 East crested at an elevation of 5800 feet about 60 km west of Creston. We left BC 3 East just past Cranbrook and joined BC 93 and 95 north heading towards Banff. It is the longest stretch of straight road that I have driven this entire trip. (This is an observation and not a complaint.)
Since the G7 is meeting about 30 km east of Banff, we decided to stop at Invermere (about 150 km from Banff) and avoid that debacle. (We had gotten caught up in a meeting of the EU ministers in Vienna one time and don’t want to repeat that experience.) This was a great decision. Invermere is a lovely town in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies and sits at the north end of Windermere Lake. We decided to spend the night at Copper Point Resort – another good decision. When we checked into our room, it had not been cleaned. The receptionist was so horrified that she upgraded us to a suite complete with full kitchen, washer and dryer, and balcony with a wonderful outdoor workspace where we are now as I type this. We had a great dinner on the restaurant patio where Peggy is looking forward to breakfast tomorrow before we continue on our journey.
