It rained during the night, but it kind of dried out early in the morning. We had stayed in a cabin and woke up late to get off to a slow start. We spent most of the day just exploring Goondiwindi which is a charming little town on the Queensland side of the MacIntyre river which forms the border between Queensland and New South Wales. We took a long stroll along the river and walked through the town learning about it’s history and industry. The principal industry in the area is cotton farming and we wanted to take the tour through a cotton plantation, but were too late to sign up. We went to McDonalds to use the internet and found that we could do email but because they don’t have broadband, I wasn’t able to work on the blog photos. When we went to the library, they informed us that internet use would cost $1.10 for 10 minutes which I found outrageous. So we decided to hold off on the blog entries.
Other than that, it was a slow, relaxing day. We went out to the restored Victoria Hotel for a delightful dinner, returned to our cabin, read for a while and turned in for the night. Tomorrow, we’ll take in the cotton plantation and head out for Brisbane. We won’t get that far, but we will get as far as Texas and see what that’s all about.
Cheers,
Wayne & Peggy
