Days 12 &13, Jul 29 & 30: Camp Verde, AZ

Ruins at Tuzigoot National Monument, AZ

We spent a great weekend with dear friends. First we explored the national monument Tuzigoot which is an excavation of an Indian Pueblo from the 1100s – 1300s near the Verde River. At it’s peak, it had between 6,000 & 8000 people living there. It is amazing how archeologists can unearth ruins and piece together both facts of about a culture and to physically reconstruct pottery pieces into a complete item.

After Tuzigoot we saw a model train exhibit w the mining towns of Jerome and Clarksdale (or Clarkston?) at the Clemenceau Heritage Museum. The volunteer gave a wonderful talk about the mining towns in their heydey! The railroad was essential to their process and getting the copper out of the mines

Next on the itinerary was a trip to the local quilt store since Peggy was in quilting withdrawal and Dotty needed some help repairing her grandaughter’s quilt. Then we treated ourselves to lunch and beer tasting (for Tom & Wayne mainly) at Camp Verde’s microbrewery.
