Days 19, 20 Chico, CA (Friday & Saturday, February 27 & 28, 2015)

Late Friday morning, we said goodbye to Sonoma and drove to Chico, CA. We would love to have spent more time there, but since we are on a tight schedule, we had to move on. As we had plenty of time to get to Chico, we opted to go the long way up CA 12 to US 101, then on to the Mark-West Road which changed names twice as it wound through the mountains to Calistoga. From Calistoga, we took CA 29 up to Lower Lake, then onto CA 20 to CA 99 and finally Chico where we stayed with a very dear friend we hadn’t seen in three years. The drive was truly an exciting adventure through the mountains with lots of narrow, windy roads. I would have given anything to be in the Miata. It’s not a route that I would recommend to anyone in a hurry to get from Sonoma to Chico as it took twice as long as the GPS recommended route.

In Chico, we had a wonderful reunion with Pat (another nurse) and spent lots of time catching up on events since our last meeting. It was both fun and relaxing. While the weather was beautiful, we prayed for rain as the area is suffering from drought. On Saturday, we joined in the festivities to celebrate her son’s birthday. Great company, food and wine!!

Cheers,
