Europe: Day 7 (April 11)

DSCN0570We liked our accommodations at Los Chorous Fuengirola, Spain so much we decided to stay another day & do some sightseeing before heading to Granada. Today we went to Malaga and saw the remains of a Roman amphitheater dating back to the 1st century. The main area was fairly well preserved. Following that we explored a restored fortress, Alcazaba de Málaga built in the 11th century and the Castillo de Gibralfaro in Málaga. The fortress was like a self sufficient town built up on a hill complete with outer and inner walls. It was amazing to see the restoration and intact walls.

DSCN0582The Castillo is quite an archaeological venture. It was built in the mid 15th century and sits above the fortress. It has some beautiful gardens and fountains, and a fascinating collection of restored pottery from it’s time.  The views from both the fortress and castillo were well worth the very long climb.
