Before starting today’s blog, we would like to acknowledge our military men and women (and their families) who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we could enjoy the freedoms that we have.

The northwest weather cooperated today for us to have a picnic with friends we haven’t seen in years! We basked under mostly sunny skies while we enjoyed lunch at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. After lunch we wandered through the lush, green gardens and across a suspension bridge. Although the rhododendrons are past peak bloom, there were enough quality blooms for us to enjoy them – especially since we missed them at home in Virginia this year. The dogwood trees, both white and pink, were in full bloom. The blooms on the trees here in the west seem so much larger than the ones in Virginia. We also enjoyed the iris plants and the Fuchsia ‘Brilliant’ Tender Tree.

There were many rose bushes, but they weren’t in bloom. We did see some very pretty, large peony blooms.

It was a thoroughly delightful day. We have been so very privileged to be able to keep in touch with long distant family and friends. We promise that over the next few months we will visit with our east coast family and friends. We have not forgotten you!
