Day 21 (5 May 2025): Phoenix, AZ

After a wonderful night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast, our hosts took us to the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. This museum opened in 2010 and contains over 15,000 instruments from all over the world. The architecture and grounds are magnificent and it is worth the trip just to see them.

As there was not nearly enough time to see the entire museum we only saw the upper level where  the instruments are arranged in galleries, each of which represents a different region of the world. We began our tour on the second level. The first gallery we came to was the Africa and the Middle East Gallery containing instruments from sub-Saharan, North African, and Middle Eastern nations. The next gallery was Asia and Oceania containing instruments from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Central Asia and the Caucasus. That’s as far as we got The other two galleries were the European and American galleries that we will have to come back to on our next trip.

Following our visit to the museum, we returned to our host’s home for a lovely dinner and visit before turning in for the night. It was truly a delightful day.
