Happy 250th birthday to the US Army..
Sadly, today it was time say goodbye to our hosts and begin our eastward trek home. But first, we went to the No Kings Rally in Kennewick.
It was energizing to be with so many different people who were peacefully voicing their opinions. It was also sobering to see a young boy holding a sign that said “This is my summer vacation. I should be playing not defending democracy.” We just hope this enthusiasm and determination carries through to the 2026 primaries and general election.
After a quick lunch, we packed up and bid our hosts farewell. Our original plan was to head directly to British Columbia, but by the time we left is was after 2 PM. So there was no hope of reaching BC. Instead, we opted to detour to Grand Coulee Dam. With today’s late start we missed the last tour, so we checked into a motel and went in search of dinner. We opted for a nearby neighborhood pub which was crowded and noisy with hockey fans who were watching the Stanley Cup finals. We couldn’t have picked a worse time to arrive. We found seats at the bar and ordered dinner salads. The beer choices were dismal so I stuck with water. Our order got lost in the shuffle and finally, after 45 minutes and prompting the bartender, our salads finally arrived. The food did what it was supposed to and when we finished we were no longer hungry. Fortunately, it was a short walk back to our motel where we relaxed with our stories before tucking in for the night.
