Scotland, Day 10 (13 September)

Today was another travel day. Ireland sent us off to Scotland in full sunshine. The water glistened on the sun and the fields were a rich green. We took the ferry from Belfast to Cairnyryan, Scotland. The Stena Ferries accommodate tractor trailers, tour buses, cars and pedestrians. It is more like a cruise ship complete with ensuite cabins and such amenities as lounges, various dining options, movie room, video game room, a spa and hot tub. Alas, our bathing suits were not in our carry-on bags so we couldn’t soak our sail away in the hot tub. Instead we relaxed and enjoyed the scenery on deck and in a lounge/dining area for our 2 hour trip.

The car hire (rental) counter was conveniently located as we exited baggage claim. We picked up our car with minimal fuss and headed in the direction of the Highlands. The scenery along the way was beautiful. The few pictures we took along the road did not do justice to the water views or Sottish countryside. Peggy saw her first signs of fall color change. As in Ireland, the sheep have been recently sheared so Beth again spotted “naked” sheep.

Since it’s our first night in Scotland, Wayne decided to order haggis. He thoroughly enjoyed it. Although Beth and Peggy thought their samples were tasty, bot said a little of it goes a long way. We burned off some of our dinner, on the uphill 0.5 mile walk back to our airbnb.
