Another beautiful day in Oz. (You’re probably getting tired of hearing that, but since they have had so little rain, the weather has been fabulous for tourists. We just hope that they do get some rain soon as they desperately need it.) After a leisurely breakfast (that’s the only kind we have these days), we drove to a small town called Harrietville which was created after gold was discovered in 1852. Today, Harrietville provides one of the bases for skiers going up to Mt. Hotham, one of Australia’s most popular ski areas in the winter. The town is very small with a population of about 275. There is a very small, charming museum next to the general store that we visited and read about the town’s history.

After leaving Harrietville, we went back into Bright to visit the Bright Brewery we had heard about. I have to say in all honesty that after visiting the Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA, the Bright Brewery was a big let down. It is a very small brewery (larger than my brewery in our basement, but not a lot) and is more of a microbrew pub that brews its own beer for the restaurant. You get a beer sampler of 6 beer styles (4 oz each) for A$12. The beer was OK, but being prejudiced, it’s not anything to go out of my way for. The so-called “American” style ale (which was not very American) was the best I thought. It was a very hoppy beer with a strong citrus character.

After the brewery lunch, we shopped around for a book store to replenish our reading materials and a camping store to get a couple of cleaning supplies. We then returned to our campground and wrote up our blog for the last couple of days. We then had our dinner (left over pizza, salad and wine), talked with a couple of Aussies and young men from Sweden. We then read our book for a little bit and tucked in for the night.
